Expanded event to include week of races prior to National Championships
For Immediate Release
Charlemont, MA, June 26, 2008 — For the second year in a row, Zoar Outdoor will host the USA Wildwater National Championships on the Deerfield River in Western Massachusetts on August 2-3, 2008. During the 1990s, Zoar Outdoor hosted a number of national competitions on the Deerfield River including Slalom Nationals, Junior Team Trials, Open-Boat Nationals, and the Wildwater Nationals in 1993, 1995 and 2007.
This year the National Wildwater Committee has decided to make a week (July 27 – Aug. 3) out of the Nationals with fun, easy races and training camps, clinics, talks and a cookout. All this is designed to increase participation in the Nationals and get more paddlers into wildwater boats. The committee is planning on providing wildwater boats and wavehoppers for paddlers to try out and to use in an easy race.
Most events during the week prior to the Nationals will be held on Zoar Gap, a 10-mile, class II-III run on the Deerfield River, and the public is invited to come watch. Experienced paddlers are invited to participate in the week’s events. For more information contact Zoar Outdoor at 800-532-7483.
