I like to think of Demofest as a (non-gendered, all-inclusive and infinitely less dressy) debutante ball for boats; it’s a chance to get to know boats that might just melt your heart, but also a great excuse for a party. Demofest 2023 will take place from June 23-25th, with three full days packed with boat speed-dating, high-quality mini-clinics and – new this year! – a mad-cap, grab-your-hat and take-a-picture-of-that scavenger hunt! If you’ve been eyeing that new boat, are considering stepping out of your comfort zone to try a half-slice, or (like me) are a bit embarrassed about sporting a kayak older than you are, Demofest is FOR YOU. We will have all of our demo boats – including the much anticipated Jackson Gnarvana and Pyranha Firecracker – available to try free of charge.
If, on the other hand, you are looking to improve your kayak skills, bask in river-y community and even indulge in a bit of silliness, Demofest is ALSO FOR YOU! Each day will commence with join-at-your-will yoga followed by mini-clinics with ZOAR staff on paddle strokes, rolling, whitewater acrobatics and swiftwater skills. For those excited to step it up a notch, there will also be Dryway runs each day. We here at ZOAR are excited for all of these Demofest endeavors – but we would be lying if we said we weren’t particularly excited about this year’s brand new, ultra-exciting scavenger hunt. Your team of 3-6 people will be able to earn points over two hours on Sunday afternoon by accomplishing a number of tasks, ranging from the satisfying to the absurd, showcasing your navigational abilities, paddling knowledge prowess, wildlife identification skills and sheer wit and determination. Compete against other teams for the chance to win a prize! Or just have fun letting the scavenger hunt guide you to fun, new places and experiences.
