I haven’t been home on a Memorial Day weekend in 5 years! Usually, we are in the RV out in CO for a few weeks competing at events. I could of gone out for 2 weeks this year but decided to just stay home and focus on WildWater training.
Memorial Day weekend we had a full house of family and friends. It was was the first official Dryway release of the season on the Deerfield River and we had a bunch of rain. The rain brought everything up and we paddled 3 different sections of the Deerfield River. Friday we paddled the West Branch of the Deerfield, the awesome creek section that runs through the town I live in. Saturday we ran the Dryway section of the Deerfield that was running higher than normal release level around 1,600cfs. Then Sunday we ran the Searsburg Section of the Deerfield a class II/III run that I’ve never run before. My brother Mark took his brother-in-law Emil and Emil’s girlfriend Kasja down that section in his ducky. They are visiting from Sweden and had a super fun time on the river. The only bummer about the weekend was that it was cold. The weather went from 80 degrees during the week to 40 degrees on the weekend and pretty much rained the entire time and it even snowed. Got to love New England!
Today June 5th, is our 8th wedding anniversary and we both remembered! We usually both forget but remembered this year so that’s pretty exciting. We are going to got out to dinner tonight with some friends at the White House INN in VT. Tomorrow I pack for our trip to Slovenia where I’ll be competing in the WildWater Sprint World Championships June 14-16 in Solkan. I’m pretty excited about this competition. This is my first time on the US WildWater Team and have no idea what to except for my results. I feel like I’ve trained really well and hope to paddle fast. I’ll be borrowing a Wild Water boat so that’ll be interesting since I have no idea what it is. I’ll have 4 days to learn the boat and learn the section of river we are competing on.
