We left home over a week ago to head out west. We made a stop in Dayton Ohio for a demo with Whitewater Warehouse. It’s a great shop with a great group of people who work there. We had an amazing dinner after the event and then we got back on the road. We made it to Buena Vista, CO a few days after that.
There’s not much water in CO which we knew when we came out here so we made sure that we both had mountain bikes. BV has a sweet pump track so we spent more time on the pump track than actually riding them on trails. The play features in the river are pretty small with the water level being low but still fun. We hit the Numbers one day and that is a great run no matter what the water level is!
This past weekend was CKS PaddleFest so lots of people came rolling into town for the event. It was great to see everyone that we haven’t seen since last year. Jeff got a music gig playing at the Asian Palate in BV and everyone finally got to see him play. That was a super fun night!
The weekend went really well with the freestyle competition, clinics and boat demos/sales. The men and women’s open class was awesome with 21 open men and the women had 4. The pro class went well which was interesting in the small hole. I didn’t paddle so well in the small hole which was fine since I knew ahead of time that it was not working for me. I had more tricks in the flat water than in the hole! The men threw down with Dane taking 1st, Matthew from France 2nd, and Dustin 3rd. The women’s class had a surprise with Adriene taking 1st, Claire from the UK 2nd, and Ruth 3rd.
It was a great weekend! I kept busy working with Wave Sport, taught 2 women’s clinics and judging the pro men’s event. I love coming out to PaddleFest and hopefully next year there will be a deeper snow pack so we’ll have water here. Next up Teva Mountain Games!
Ruth killing it in the big hole!
Crazy windy all weekend!
