Volunteers needed! Each season Zoar Outdoor hosts a number of great events and this year we are asking for a little help from the paddling community. If your interested in becoming more involved with a bunch of fun paddlers check out some of our options to help.
The annual Berkshire Highlands Pentathlon features many of the best outdoor adventures in our area. The five events - a 10k trail run, 20 miles of road biking, 2 miles of kayaking, a 2 mile obstacle run, a mile to the top of the mountain and a downhill ski to the finish - can only happen on the same day at the turn of the seasons. It may be a bit cold for road biking and kayaking and a bit warm for skiing, but where else can you do it all on the same day?
Saturday we are kicking off the Dryway releases in style with a little bash in the Dunbar Brook Picnic area. We will have some boat demos and a free shuttle ride available from the Dunbar Brook Picnic Area up to the put-in at Monroe Bridge. The Dryway Section is for very experienced paddlers only. It is 3.5 miles long of class III and IV rapids...super fun and technical. After your run/s join us for a potluck style BBQ in the picnic area starting at 3:00 PM.
Our DemoFest is always one of our biggest events for the summer. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of free boat demos and free teasers for our instruction clinics. There are also opportunities to meet and paddle with professional paddlers. This year we are combining two great events, our DemoFest and the American Whitewater Deerfield River Festival. We’re very excited for all the new energy this change is bringing into the event. Some changes include: a Friday night speaker hosted at Zoar Outdoor; Saturday will be focused on bringing in new folks to the sport, demoing boats and celebrating releases in the evening in the fairgrounds; Sunday we’ll return to free mini-clinics, boat demos, and possibly a downriver race on the Dryway Section of the Deerfield River.
