Zipline Canopy Tour Operations Manager

The Zipline Operations Manager is responsible for the overall management of the Zoar Outdoor Zipline Canopy Tour Program located in Charlemont Massachusetts. We seek to provide high quality experiences for our guests and our employees. This includes ensuring integrity of operations in hiring, staff training, customer service, trip logistics as well as maintaining company culture & values. Operational management experience with a background in outdoor recreation, team building, environmental and experiential education is preferred but not required.

This position may be a year round or seasonal position based on the experience and needs of the applicant and the company. The Zipline Operations Manager reports directly to the GM of Zoar Outdoor. While the position’s main focus is The Zipline Canopy Tour Program, all managers at Zoar Outdoor are expected to participate in, and step towards, the overall tasks and needs of the company as a whole.

Roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

The Zipline Canopy Tour Operations Manager oversees zipline procedures and systems of the program which includes:

  • Hiring, training and supervising canopy tour guides.
  • Scheduling canopy tour guides to cover anticipated and actual needs.
  • Assuring that tours are run according to established procedures, state and industry guidelines, and that guides consistently know and follow those procedures.
  • Monitoring canopy tour procedures and changes and communicating them to guides and other managers.
  • Working effectively with other departments.
  • Working to maintain staff morale and promoting teamwork throughout the season.
  • Staffing the canopy tour as needed in coordination with other departments.
  • Assisting other programs/tasks when needed.

Canopy tour equipment, vehicle maintenance, and purchasing includes:

  • Purchasing, maintaining, and repairing/replacing equipment as needed.
  • Purchasing and maintaining, or coordinating maintenance of all canopy tour vehicles.
  • Documenting purchase, use and maintenance of all safety-critical equipment and vehicles.

Administrative responsibility includes:

  • Maintaining canopy tour trip reports, equipment use and maintenance reports and other paperwork.
  • Annually renewing any necessary permits for the canopy tour.
  • Tracking guide certifications and ensuring that certifications are up to date.
  • Coordinating annual course inspection and certification.
  • Organizing and documenting continuing education, certification and training for canopy tour staff.
  • Support with payroll verification.

Compensation is negotiable based on experience.  Successful completion of the state mandated Criminal Offender Record Inquiry (CORI) is a requirement for this position.
