Zoar Adventure Center FAQs

By 829 Dev

It’s our first summer at the newZoar Adventure Center (ZAC) in Wilmington, VT and we’re excited for summer in this ski and vacation community.  We asked our Adventure Center Manager, Keith Reinemann, to answer some of the most common questions we get about ZAC.

So what do you do at ZAC?

We think of ourselves as an adventure hub in the upper Deerfield River Valley.  In the summer we offer daily rentals and guided trips for kayaks, stand-up paddleboards (SUPs) and mountain bikes.  We also answer a lot of questions about local trails, lakes and other places to enjoy the outdoors.  Ultimately, we hope to help inspire people to take on their next adventure!

Stand Up Paddling? That sounds difficult!

Not at all-it’s incredibly easy. The boards are pretty stable and can be used in a lot of different ways.  SUP is a great way to get a wonderful workout if you’re paddling hard, or to have a relaxing time on the water.  We like to think of them as floating docks – great for taking a quick swim or for some quality time with your summer beach read!  Our Bic paddleboards rent for $40 a day.

Where can I go kayaking?

Southern Vermont has several excellent options for recreational kayaking, including Harriman Reservoir, the largest lake entirely within the state of Vermont.  Harriman’s largely undeveloped shoreline features numerous coves to explore and many access points, so each day can be a new adventure.

Somerset Reservoir, nestled in the Green Mountain National Forest, is another great choice.  Along with being the headwaters of the Deerfield River, Somerset is unspoiled and surrounded by mountains including Glastenbury Mountain and Mount Pisgah – more commonly known as Mount Snow. Our Perception kayaks rent for $40 a day.

What are the options for biking around Wilmington?

The closest biking option to ZAC is right out the front door – the Hoot, Toot and Whistle trail crosses the green footbridge just next to our shop and takes you along the Deerfield River to Harriman Reservoir, a two-mile advanced beginner trail ride.  Other options include the 10-mile-long Catamount Trail following the west shore of Harriman Reservoir and the Valley Trail, a 7 mile ride from Dover to Wilmington that includes some rough sections, but offers a good challenge for intermediate riders.  Our Trek mountain bikes rent for $40 a day.
