Moose Fest 2008

By Blair Winans

Another Moose Fest has come and gone which usually means it’s all
most time to put away the kayak and get your snowboard or skis ready
for winter.  The Fest starts Friday night at Slickers Pub in Old Forge,
NY which is a great time.  You have to be careful not to party too
hard.

I paddled the Lower Moose on Saturday with Jeff my husband and some
friends.  The Lower Moose is a class III/IV section.  The Lower offers
Beautiful scenery and some really fun drops.  After we paddled we ate
at an awesome restaurant in Old Forge.  This year was a little
different there was no event at the usual festival site.  The party
continued at Slickers Pub Saturday night.  Sunday I paddled the Bottom
Moose which is the class V section of the Moose River.  I paddled with
my brother Mark and some friends on the Bottom Moose.  The Bottom
always offers great scenery, great drops, and some good entertainment
of paddlers making really good lines or really bad lines.  We saw some
carnage on Sunday, for sure!  It was a great weekend of paddling and
socializing with friends.  I’m excited for next year’s Moose
Fest!

We are home in Readsboro, VT and getting ready for winter.  We have
been spending lots of time splitting wood.  Hopefully we’ll get some
rain soon to get some paddling in before it’s too cold.

Enjoy the photos!
