Charlemont, MA — Zoar Outdoor is pleased to announce its 13th annual summer film series hosted at the Zoar Pavilion on Saturday evenings throughout the summer. These programs are free and open to the public. The series features prominent outdoor enthusiasts who have documented on film their adventures as a way to share their passions with the local community.
The first presentation will be on Saturday, May 29th by Judy Wolf, Zoar Outdoor kayak instructor, world traveler and freelance writer. Judy will do a slide show on her extensive world travels entitled “The World at Your Doorstep.” She is currently working on a book about her recent adventures.
Saturday, June 26th will be a mini-film fest with several newly released DVDs presented by well known videographers who will be here for Zoar’s DemoFest 2004 June 25 – 27th. Erik Jackson, will present his latest DVD ? EJ?s Rolling and Bracing?. Jackson is Current World Freestyle Champion, Two-Time World Freestyle Champion, Silver Medalist in 1997 World Freestyle Championships, Professional Kayaker since 1989, Lead Kayak Designer for Wavesport since 1997, Author of two top selling instructional books, Producer of the top selling instructional DVDs and owner of Jackson Kayaks company. The latest spring 2004 Lunch Vidoe Magazine (LVM #12) will be shown.
On July 17th, local expedition leader Phil Buck will be here to talk about his latest adventures – “Chile to Australia” – trying to cross the sea in his reed boat. In March 2003 he attempted to sail from Chile to Australia, but had to abort at Easter Island after 75 days at sea. His presentation will feature the reasons leading up to his failed attempt and the plans for his next trip.
On Friday, August 27th, Anna Levesque will present “Girls at Play,” her recent DVD about women and paddling. Anna Levesque, is a member of the Canadian National Freestyle team and was the bronze medallist at the 2001 World Championships in Sort, Spain. She is a member of Team Dagger Freestyle and a Nike ACG athlete.
The final presentation, “Chilean Whitewater”, on September 18th will be given by Chris Spelius, owner of Expediciones Chile and well-known rodeo kayaker. Spe has been paddling on rivers around the world for the last 30 years and now operates a paddling school during the winter on the Futaleufu River in Chile. Spe has been coming north to teach a playboat course at Zoar Outdoor for the past 12 years.
