Staff Spotlight: Summer Barkoskie, Zip Course Assistant Manager

For this edition of Staff Spotlight, we interviewed Summer Barkoskie, the Assistant Manager of our zip course.

What’s your role at Zoar Outdoor, and how long have you been involved with the company?

I was actually recruited to come join Zoar. Before working here, I was the girl that took everyone's lunch orders! I started as a Zip Guide, recruited when the course was first opening. Somehow, I became Assistant Manager along the way, and I just wrapped up my third year here.

What's your favorite part of the job?

I love the constant challenges of connecting with people and always learning new things. There is a wealth of knowledge in them thar hills!

What have been your favorite experiences while working with Zoar?

Oh, it's definitely discovering that being clipped in to a tree with 9 other people can be a life-changing experience. I've learned that, somehow, it will all work out - no matter what "it" is. And also, this is where all the cool kids work!

When you're not working, how do you like to spend your free time?

Free time? Hmmm...do I have free time during the zip season? I think its actually called "time to get all of that other stuff done."

How do you spend your winter?

Hey, I DO have free time!!! This is for snuggling, book reading, art projects, planning next year's garden, cooking, romping with the kittens, snowshoeing, reconnecting with friends and family, and whatever else I haven't been spending enough time doing during the busy season!

What's a little-known fact about you?

Back in my younger days, I used to be a little bit of trouble...maybe that should be Trouble with a capital "T."

What animal do you most resemble?

That would probably be either a mongoose or an aye-aye, mostly because I like their names.

What's your dream vacation?

That would be anywhere that provides a new experience and where I am not expected to do much!

Thanks for the interview, Summer! Tune in to the next newsletter for another edition of the Staff Spotlight.
