Human Power: 2000 Carbon-Free Miles

Biking to Work
For the second year in a row, we have offered a challenge to our employees: walk, pedal or paddle to work and cut down on our carbon emissions. And just like last year, our employees rose to the challenge. They doubled their total from last year, racking up over 2000 commuting miles through human-powered means!

We offered employees incentives of gift certificates for running, riding or walking the first 100 miles and fabulously stylish Zoar bike shirts for those who hit 250 miles. Raft and zip guide Amber Tulloch was the first across that major milestone, commuting over 250 miles to earn the bike shirt. Most of our 2000 miles were accumulated through biking, running and walking, but a few paddled kayaks or canoes to or from work! The Deerfield River is certainly less prone to traffic jams than Route 2.

The 2000 human-powered miles accumulated by Zoar employees this season represents over 1900 pounds of carbon dioxide that didn’t enter our atmosphere!
