Cayuse-less

Looking it Up

What’s a cayuse, and what does it have to do with Zoar Outdoor?

A cayuse is a type of horse from the Pacific Northwest, and it’s also the word that knocked “A 2 Zoar” out of the Mary Lyon Foundation Community Spelling Bee. In this fun tournament, now in its sixth year, teams of three attempt to outlast their competition in the noble art of spelling. Our own Bruce Lessels, Miles Hart Warner, and Leah Plath comprised team “A 2 Zoar” this year and were putting up a noble fight before “cayuse” knocked them out of the competition.

Zoar Outdoor has supported the community spelling bee for all 6 years, both by donating raffle items and by sponsoring a team.  Proceeds from the spelling bee benefit local education as well as the Student Assistance Fund for families affected by tropical storm Irene.
