Stand Up Paddleboard Demo Festival

Head to Turners Falls, MA on August 31st to join Zoar Outdoor for a day celebrating Stand Up Paddleboarding (SUPing) and to try your hand at the sport!

All day long, Zoar Outdoor staff and SUP industry representatives will be at Unity Park in Tuners Falls, helping you get outfitted and out on the water to try a board. Jody Fontaine from Pure Yoga Wellness Studio in South Deerfield will teach two hour-long SUP yoga sessions during the day as well.

In the afternoon, head to the Great Falls Discovery Center just two blocks away for a presentation from Mike Simpson about his experience SUPing from Key West, Florida, to Portland, Maine, as part of the SUP the Coast project. After Simpson's presentation, watch "A Stand Up Paddle Movie" which documents the history of the sport as well as its growing popularity.

All of this fun will be taking place right in downtown Turners Falls, so you can go from boat demos to downtown shops and restaurants and then return for the afternoon presentations!

Event Details

From 8:30am  to 4:30pm we will be running demos from a field in Unity Park, next to the Connecticut River. Parking is available in a lot on the river side of the road. A small gate leading away from the parking lot will take you down to the field where our staff and gear will be located. For Google Maps directions, use the address 27-59 1st St., Turners Falls, MA 01376. Starting at 5:30, you can head over to the Great Falls Discovery Center, at 2 Avenue A, Turners Falls, MA, where we will hold the SUP the Coast presentation and A Stand Up Paddle Movie screening.

What are the SUP Demos and Sup Yoga?

The hour-long SUP Demo sessions will give you the chance to get out on the water on a SUP board to try it out. Our staff will be on hand to help outfit you and get you on the water, as well as to give you some pointers so you can have a more successful experience. These sessions are not, however, meant to be instructional, so you'll be able to paddle at your own pace and for as little or as long as you want, within the allotted time. The SUP Yoga sessions, on the other hand, will be more structured and Yoga instruction will be provided to the group on the water. These will be like the Yoga sessiosn you might attend at a local studio - except on the water!

How can I sign up for Demos and Yoga?

You should call Zoar Outdoor at 1-800-532-7483 to reserve your spot for the SUP Demos and SUP Yoga. You are welcome to come down to the event site without a reservation, but we will only be able to accommodate walk-ins as space allows.

Who will be at the Demos?

Sup Demo Festival will be a great way to meet and get advice from industry experts as you learn more about Stand Up Paddleboarding. Zoar Outdoor staff and BIC Sport SUP representative Mike MacDonald will be on-site all day. Jody Fontaine from Pure Yoga Wellness Studio in South Deerfield will be teaching the SUP Yoga sessions.

About Mike Simpson and SUP the Coast

Mike Simpson discovered Stand Up Paddleboarding after having spent many years both kayaking and surfing. For him, it was the perfect combination of the two and has become a passion for him. In 2011, he set out with his friend Will to paddle from Key West, Florida, to Portland, Maine. They aimed not only to enjoy their adventure and introduce people to SUPing, but also to raise awareness and funds for The Wounded Warrior Project, which supports injured soldiers, and for SUP Clean-up, which works to protect our oceans. In his presentation, Simpson will share with the audience his amazing journey up the east coast.

About A Stand Up Paddle Movie

A Stand Up Paddle Movie traces the history of stand up paddle sports. Through interviews with top athletes, it introduces audiences to what has become one of the most popular paddle sports in the country. Footage from Hawaii, California, and several SUP competitions and events will have you eager to push your SUPing skills to new heights, as pro paddlers showcase the many ways the sport is being taken to new heights.
