Guided Float Fishing on the Deerfield River, MA

Float Fishing on the Deerfield River
Top 3 Reasons to Go:
  1. Fish parts of the Deerfield River that are not otherwise accessible
  2. Our friendly professional guides make your day memorable
  3. The Deerfield River is one of the top angling rivers in the Northeast

Guided Float Fishing on the Deerfield River provides unique access to exceptional fly fishing opportunities unavailable to most anglers.  Our friendly professional guides cater to both beginners and experts.  We offer casting instruction and fly fishing tips to maximize your fun and hopefully catch lots of fish!

The vehicle for your adventure is a self bailing oar rigged raft, outfitted with comfortable seats for one angler in the bow and one in the stern.  This is a very stable craft, smoothly maneuvered by your guide to place you in the optimum position to effectively present a fly.

A guided trip begins in discussion with your guide.  We review river levels, current conditions and seasonal considerations and offer suggestions to optimize your day on the water.  Tackle (rod, reel, line, and flies) is available at no charge.  Experienced anglers are encouraged to bring their favorite five or six weight outfit (with weight forward floating and sink tip lines) as well as flies that work with their preferred techniques.  Lunch or snacks and drinks are provided.

Please note that all guided fly fishing at Zoar Outdoor is “Catch and Release”.  The simple truth of Lee Wulff’s statement over sixty years ago is ever more eloquent today: “The fish you release is your gift to another angler and, remember, it may have been someone’s similar gift to you.”

If circumstances and/or your preference warrant, wade fishing with one or two clients per guide can be arranged.

You should bring

  • Current MA fishing license (available online at http://www.sport.state.ma.us/). Note: Zoar Outdoor will assist online purchase if necessary, but this will inevitably delay the fun...
  • NOTE: Studded footwear will not be allowed in the raft. Felts are appropriate
  • High quality rain jacket, rain pants or waders, and rain hat
  • Polarized sunglasses and wide brim hat
  • Dress in layers with warm/dry clothing. Do not wear cotton!
  • Supplex Buzz Off outerwear and/or bug repellant in May, June and early July
  • If you prefer your own gear, a 9 foot rod for WF5F or WF6F is an excellent choice. A sink tip would also be useful. Bring your favorite flies as well!
  • Camera, in waterproof protection

We provide

  • Personal Flotation Device (lifejackets)
  • A basic selection of flies and fly fishing tackle
  • Casting and fishing instruction
  • Introduction to tactics, methods, and fly patterns effective in local waters
