This has certainly been an eventful late season on the river. August is always a busy month, and this year was no exception: our boats were full and our spirits high as we rafted the Fife Brook and Dryway sections of the river in gorgeous weather. When Hurricane Irene blew through western Massachusetts on August 28th, though, the season became eventful for a whole different reason.

Many of you have stayed in the Hawk Mountain Lodge over the years: some of you came during the season and took advantage of multi-day adventures at Zoar, while others visited during the winter and used it as a home base for your skiing and snowshoeing excursions.
