What to Wear on the River? We've Got the Scoop!

by Office Staff

Wondering what you should wear on the river this summer on your whitewater rafting adventure? Look no further! We've got all the answers you may need.

We get lots of questions when it comes to rafting. One of the ones that we hear most often is “What am I supposed to wear for a rafting trip?” It’s not every day that people go whitewater rafting, and if you’ve never been it can be tricky to know what to expect and what to wear. Have no fear, we’ve got you covered! Most of us here at Zoar are river folk and can give you lots of insight on appropriate attire. River rats take fashion very seriously, after all.

A lot of what we wear is personal preference, but on a warm, sunny day in July you’ll see most people wearing a variation of the same thing: usually it’s board shorts, sandals and a synthetic t-shirt. Sun's out, guns out! Now although the weather may be warm we do recommend that you don’t wear cotton no matter the time of year. Cotton kills, they say - it gets wet, stays wet and keeps you cold. Brrrr!

We are in New England, so some days the weather can be a little chilly, but we love it anyways! Wearing appropriate clothing can make all the difference. If the weather is cold and rainy we recommend that you bulk up on the layers. Again, no cotton! Wool, fleece, and synthetics are the way to go. We like to say that if you’re too hot you can always remove layers, but if you’re cold and have no more layers…well you’re up the creek without a paddle.

We know that not everyone has the clothing that you may need for a rafting trip, so we have plenty here! Stop by the red house above the parking lot and pop into our Outfitters Shop. We have a range of synthetic shirts, shorts, pants and even appropriate foot wear. Whatever weather-related clothing needs you may have, our Outfitters Shop is ready to accommodate! We’ve also got a pavilion bursting at the seams with rentable wetsuits, splash jackets and booties.

Basically, we’ve got what you need right here at Zoar Outdoor. Adventure on!
