Bike Rentals in Massachusetts
The Deerfield River Valley in Massachusetts offers some of the best comfort biking and road biking in New England with a variety of paved and dirt roads to choose from, great scenery and lots of interesting places to explore.
We rent both sport road bikes with drop handlebars and recreational bikes with a more upright geometry and a front shock absorber daily from our base in Charlemont, Massachusetts from May 1 to October 31st.
From our convenient location in Charlemont, MA, you can either follow the river upstream or downstream, bike to a state forest, or head up into the hills for a more physically challenging ride. Our staff can help you choose a route that’s right for your group whether you want an hour-long ride or a full-day tour.
Who Can Participate?
Participants should be able bikers. Our minimum age for biking is 10. Our minimum height is 5 feet. Biking in our area is mostly on back roads that can be narrow and often lack a shoulder.
When Do They Happen?
Bike rentals are available to be picked up after 10 am on weekdays or after 9 am on weekends. If you would like to pick up your bike earlier, call the day before and we will try to arrange to accommodate you.. When you arrive, you will be required to read and sign a release of liability before taking part in this activity.
Half day rentals are available starting at 1 pm.
What Should I Wear?
Snug-fitting bike shorts or other snug-fitting shorts or long pants are best in order to keep your pant leg from getting caught in the front chainring. You can also use a rubber band around your pant leg to prevent this. Well-fitting sneakers or other light shoes are best on your feet. Our bikes have standard pedals. The sport road bikes have toe clips without straps. Our pedals do not fit clipless pedal shoe systems.
Do I Need a Reservation?
While you may be able to walk in without a reservation, it is a good idea to reserve ahead to ensure we have a bike for you. Busy weekends and weekdays in the summer book well in advance.
Where Do We Meet?
We are located on Route 2, 20 miles west of Greenfield, Mass. and 20 miles east of North Adams, Mass. in the town of Charlemont. From the east, take Route 2 to Route 91 south. Get off at exit 26 (Greenfield) and proceed on Route 2 west 20 miles to Charlemont. From the north or south on Route 91, get off at exit 26 and proceed west on Route 2 as above. From the west, take Route 2 and proceed 20 miles east from North Adams. Our base is the red house on the north side of the highway on the western outskirts of the town center. Look for the blue, white, and green sign.
